A ship ( Audio (US) (helpĀ·info)) is a large vessel that floats on water. Ships are generally distinguished from boats based on size and cargo or passenger capacity. In traditional terms, ships were considered to be vessels which had at least one continuous water-tight deck extending from bow to stern. However, some modern designs for ships, and boats, have made that particular definition less accurate. Ships may be found on lakes, seas, and rivers and they allow for a variety of activities, such as the transport of people or goods, fishing, entertainment, public safety, and warfare.

Ships and boats have developed alongside mankind. In major wars, and in day to day life, they have become an integral part of modern commercial and military systems. Fishing boats are used by millions of fishermen throughout the world. Military forces operate highly sophisticated vessels to transport and support forces ashore. Commercial vessels, nearly 35,000 in number, carried 7.4 billion tons of cargo in 2007.

These vessels were also key in history's great explorations and scientific and technological development. Navigators such as Zheng He spread such inventions as the compass and gunpowder. Ships have been used for such purposes as colonization and the slave trade, and have served scientific, cultural, and humanitarian needs. New crops that had come from the Americas via the European seafarers in the 16th century significantly contributed to the world's population growth.

As Thor Heyerdahl demonstrated with his tiny craft the Kon-Tiki, it is possible to navigate long distances upon a simple log raft. From Mesolithic canoes to today's powerful nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, ships tell the history of human technological development.

How to ship reptile pets to other states and overseas?
Q. My friend Alex breeds and raises different kinds of snakes, lizards and amphibians. Normally he sells them locally but has recently gotten requests to sell to other states and even overseas but he is afraid to ship them so far. Both me and Alex love the pets he breeds and Alex does not want them to be under stress or harm. Is there a way to ship a reptile without causing it to much stress, how would you do this?

A. I only know how to ship snakes. I'm sure there wouldn't be to much of a difference in shipping many other different reptiles. With a snake you need a small box, news paper, cheese cloth and tape. Take the news paper and crumple it all into balls, then fill the box half way with the crumpled news paper balls, place the snake into cheese cloth and tie the top so the snake can not get out, place the snake and cheese cloth into the box and fill the box the rest of the way up with news paper. Then tape the box up. Your friend is going to have to send the snake over night or there is more risk of the snake not making it to you in good health. I breed snakes and i have sent a few snakes this way. It has always worked for me. Good luck!

A. did you check with pet laws in India? can you just bring your pet in? some countries require special vaccinations and have specific rules on how to bring pets in. Some even force the pets to stay in quarantine for a month! if they have to special laws, then yes check with the airlines and if you dog is small enough you can take her in a crate and put it under the seat,
